Letter Opener Speeds and Duty Cycles

The speed a letter opener's motor is capable of running is the opener's operating speed. A letter opener with an operating speed of 11,000 envelopes per hour means it can open a stack of 700 envelopes in approximately 4 minutes.
It is not advisable to continually operate a letter opener, or any machinery, at its maximum operating speed for long stretches of time. Running machinery excessively at maximum speeds will increase wear or damage the parts and will reduce the overall lifespan of the machine. The duty cycle of a letter opener is the suggested volume that it should open per day or hour. Check the owner's manual, or speak with a sales associate to determine your letter opener's duty cycle.
