Coil Binding Quick Answers

Why Use Coil Binding Systems?

Coil binding, often referred to as spiral binding, uses a spring-like binding element to twist through punched holes, creating a secure bind. Supplies traditionally were made out of metal, much like a spiral binder you would take to school. Binding coils are now made from PVC plastic, making them more durable. This also means coils are now available in a rainbow of assorted colors.

Prominent manufacturers such as GBC, Renz, Akiles, Ibico and others make our coil binding systems. Our most popular line of coil binding machines is the CoilMac series.

Coil binding elements are available in a variety of lengths and diameters. They are also available in different pitches (spacing between holes). Five-to-one (5:1) coils work with machines that punch five holes along every inch of paper. Four-to-one (4:1) coils work with machines that punch four holes along every inch of paper. You will want to make sure your coil binding elements and machine are compatible with each other.

General Graphic's Quick Answers On Coil Binding.
Coil binders are available in both manual and electric models. Manual machines require you to manually punch the paper and insert the coils by hand. Electric machines use a motor to punch the paper and often have an inserter that spins the coil into place. Coil crimping pliers are used to crimp both ends of the binding element, preventing it from spinning back out the holes.

Coil binding is an economical solution for many binding needs. These machines can be used to bind reports, books, documents and other material. Order your coil binding machine today!
